St. Louis could be an interesting story this year...

Postby FreakinFightinFidos » Tue Feb 19, 2013 9:58 pm

They've been playing particularly well of late. They reeled off a 9-game win streak, lost 2 in a row in conference, and are on the verge, this evening, of destroying VCU for their 8th W in a row since those losses. Currently 2nd in the A10 1/2 game behind VCU and 1/2 ahead of Butler,(though after this imminent victory they will be in 1st). They visit Butler this Friday.

After the death of Majerus, this is all on the back of former assistant coach Jim Crews, former Evansville head coach ('85 - '02).

They've been impressive lately.
The Majerus storyline will loom large on the networks in March, book it.

Best of luck to SLU. I hope they make the tournament and win a game or two for Rick Majerus.

Crews was always known as an excellent x's and o's guy. I said this on salukitalk the day majerus left and a lot of people disagreed with me. It sounds like they have some talent and are playing together. I hope they win their league.

I was listening to ex-SLU coach Brad Sonderberg this morning. He made a couple of interesting points. 1. It's not enough to know your system; you have to recruit players who will actually believe in and work the system. That's why the Dukes, KYs, and North Carolinas are so consistently good. Basically he said what people on ST and SN have been saying: CLo had a good system, but recruited the wrong people to play it. 2. He said if all Div 1 schools had to play an equal number of home and away non-conference games the rankings and recruiting would be a lot different. The example he used was Syracuse (who MIGHT play 1 non-conference game per year away). He also mentioned some other big programs.

Me too, unless they play Kansas.
You see life is like that. We change, that's all. You see, the guy I am now is not the guy I was then. If the guy I was then met the guy I am now he'd beat the deuce out of me. Those are the facts.

It was hard for me at first too.

It isn't hard at all.

Get a pair of Blu-blockers, wear them at SLU games. Their jersey's appear to be orange, you wind up thinking you're rooting for Syracuse, then someone (who isn't drunk yet) informs you, "...it's OK! This is St. Louis University, not Syracuse!"

You then smile and realize, "wow... thanks! I thought I was pulling for Boeheim! You're a lifesaver!"

Piece of cake! :-D
